MARSHALL, John (1755-1835). Partial autograph letter to one of his sons. Richmond [VA], 25 April 1835. 2pp plus fragment of third page, 8 x 6 in. (creasing at folds, light soil, torn integral leaf affecting text). Written three months before his own death, Marshall writes to his son, in small part: "Your determination to remove your negroes to the Southwest came upon me entirely by surprise....There is said to be much fine cotton land in Mississippi Alabama Florida (the Talahassie [sic] country) and on the west of the Mississippi."

The Papers of John Marshall include a transcription of this letter made by a Marshall descendant which is also incomplete. The transcript indicates the letter was addressed to James K. Marshall at Leeds Manor, Faquier County, Virginia.

DEARBORN, Henry (1751-1829). Letter signed ("H. Dearborn") as Secretary of War to Rufus King, Esquire. "War Department," 19 February 1802. 1p, 8 x 10 in. (creasing, spotting, light soil). Dearborn writes to King regarding an "Invoice of military books selected under your direction for the department of war....The books have arrived in good order, and from a cursory examination they appear to me to be selected with great judgement."

KING, Rufus (1755-1827). Autograph letter signed ("R. King") as United States Senator from New York to Cyrus King. N.p. "Sunday" 1 April 1792. 2pp, 8 1/2 x 9 1/2 in. (creasing, toning, chipping). King writes encouraging Cyrus King to take a journey home to see the family.

CLINTON, George. Document signed ("Geo. Clinton") as Governor of New York. 5 April 1802. 1p, 15 1/2 x 9 1/2 in. (creasing, toning, chipping). Appointment for George Allen as "Captain of a Company of Artillery in the Brigade of Militia...."
