Lot Description
[LINCOLN, Abraham. - CIVIL WAR]. "1861" Lincoln Civil War soldier's identification disc, plus.

29 1/2 mm medal (scratches, oxidation) by F.B. Smith featuring bust of Lincoln facing right on obverse, inscribed "Abraham Lincoln / President, U.S. / War of 1861." Reverse blank. Not holed. King-182. Manuscript notation on paper envelope accompanying the disc states: "May 19, 1950 From the Hall Collection."

This Abraham Lincoln identification tag was unissued as no soldier's name and military unit appears on the reverse. These tags were not provided by the U.S. Army, but could be purchased by soldiers from the sutler assigned to their unit.

[With:] A group of two Civil War tokens: the first with "The Flag of Our Union / 1863" on obverse and "If Anybody Attempts to Tear It Down Shoot Him On the Spot / Dix" on reverse; the second with a bust of George B. McClellan and "George B. McClellan / 1863" on obverse and "Army& Navy" on reverse.
