Remington New York Contract Rolling Block Rifle
Indian Wars

.50-70. 36" barrel length. SN: NSN. Blued and casehardened finish with flat wrist walnut stock and full length handguard mounted with three barrel bands. Single-shot rolling block breechloading rifle featuring US military inspection markings. The tang is marked REMINGTONS' ILION. N.Y. U.S.A./PAT. MAY 3D NOV. 15TH 1864 APRIL 17TH 1865/AUG 27TH 1867 NOV. 7TH 1871. The buttplate tang is marked with inventory number 90 above the screw and A below it. The left barrel flat is struck with the sub inspector initial B as do all the barrel bands. Front sight has been removed and solder fill left in its mount, while the rear sight leaf is likewise missing. Features the high claw hammer and outward turned thumb lever in addition to the curved banner at left wrist indicative of the model. Safety action automatically returns the hammer to half cock when the beech is closed.

Condition Report

Good. Bore is Frosty with brown patina throughout and a patch of oxidation forming near the muzzle. The finish overall is a dark brown patina with some patches of oxidation forming on the breech face, the hammer, and the hammer spur. Metal markings are shallow and the item displays mars and dings along the metal work. The stock finish is smooth indicating it has been sanded. The buttplate has patched oxidation overall. The action is functional..
