Lot Description

U.S. Springfield Model 1884 Trapdoor Rifle
Indian Wars

.45-70 Government. 32.5" barrel length. SN: 355756. Blued metal finish to barrels and case hardened finish to breech. Walnut stock has a plain straight grip and forearm with double barrel bands. Breechloading rifle with M1884 Buffington rear sight and blade front sight. Item features a low arched breech, two piece triggerguard, serrated trigger, two click tumbler, and stacking sling swivels. Markings include US/MODEL/1873 to breech cover, US/SPRINGFIELD and eagle to center of lock, and US to heel of buttplate. Stock is marked with an inspector cartouche to left side, but markings are obscured. Comb of buttstock appears to be marked A2/4C11. Includes wide channeled and slotted cleaning rod, as well as leather military style sling.
