Lot Description
Klingenthal Presentation Model 1850 Foot Officer's Sword
29" blade length. 34.5" overall with hilt. Single edged spearpoint blade with double fullers and etched patterns. The hilt is cast brass with a soldered join in the knuckle bow. Guard features floral patterns to the right side and a plain brass surface on the left face. Brass pommel cap has conjoined olive branches flowing along the edge and overlapping the rear surface of the shagreen and wire wrapped handle. The blade has been etched with martial themes including crossed cannons and banners along the right blade and a panoply of arms on the left. A sunburst pattern spreads from the ricasso on both sides. Blade is engraved with the Klingenthal maker mark along the backstrap. Two illegible inspection marks have been struck into the right ricasso near the guard. The fullers run almost completely to the tip with a medial ridge connecting the point of the fullers and the tip of the blade, suggesting it was cut down from an original length in excess of 30 inches.

Condition Report
Good. Blade is a mottled gray patina with scattered bites and some patches of light pitting along the edge. Some patches of brown patina are forming at the tip and ricasso, with further scratches and mars overall. Guard shows an amber patina overall with some loss of fine details. The guard and knuckle bow wiggle, as does the pommel cap, but the handle remains tight. Shagreen cover for the handle has been worn down to the wood in some patches along the back.
