Lot Description
A Pair of Silver Mounted French Percussion Pistols
.58 caliber. 8.25" pinned octagon to round barrels. SN: NSN. Bright finish, silver mountings, European hardwood stocks. Single shot percussion muzzleloading smoothbore pistols. Lightly engraved percussion locks with not fully legible two-line maker's marks. Breeches with gilt highlighted shell motif engraving. Stocks with raised carved decorations. Butt caps in the form of a lion's head with touchmarks at the rear of the head, suggesting they are of silver. Triggerguards with touchmarks in the grip strap as well. Sideplates with no visible touchmarks but appear to be of silver also. Ramrod pipes secure a pair of old wood ramrods, one horn tipped and one with a wood and metal replaced tip. Although well worn with moderate amounts of damage to the wood, these pistols were high grade at one time and their silver mountings alone make them a candidate for restoration to their former glory.
