Martially Marked Remington New Model Army
American Civil War
.44" Caliber. 8" barrel length. SN: 57608. Blued metal finish with brass triggerguard and two piece walnut grips, and mortised front blade sight. Single action percussion six-shot revolver with threaded breech octagonal barrel. The top of the barrel shows the standard patent and address mark reading PATENTED SEPT. 14. 1858./E. REMINGTON & SONS. ILION. NEW YORK. U.S.A./NEW-MODEL. Martial inspector initials include P initial to the triggerguard, left and right barrel and frame, into the base of the left grip panel. Cylinder shows two S initials to the flanks of the cylinder and a K to the rear face. The serial numbers are mixed with the barrel reading 57632, and the rear cylinder marked 7002. The left grip panel retains a weak GP cartouche marking of inspector Giles Porter. The grip base of each grip panel has a hollow cut along the frame, possibly to serve as a lanyard loop.
