Lot Description
**FP-45 Liberator Pistol
.45 ACP. 4" barrel length. SN: NSN. Bare pressed steel finish with hollow grips and smooth bore. Single-shot breech loading pistol with the grip serving as storage for additional ammunition. The housing is secured by rivets, and features a rear notch sight mounted atop the breech block, with the front sight composed in one piece with the triggerguard. The left frame has the initial H scratched into it. Manufactured by the Guide Lamp Division of General Motors, the Liberator pistols were manufactured in 1942 for the express purpose of arming resistance forces in Europe. Featuring a smooth bore, and manually cycled breechblock with no extractor, requiring the end user to manually eject casings with a stick or a rod. The bore was non rifled, resulting in both a slow rate of fire and poor accuracy. Ultimately, the weapon's marginal performance diminished enthusiasm for the project, and documented cases of their successful use remain scarce.
