Lot Description
** U.S. Springfield Model 1898 Krag Rifle Converted to Carbine
.30-40. 22" barrel length. SN: 419166. Blued metal finish with polished bolt in half length walnut stock wtih short upper handguard, and mounting a trapdoor butt. The stock has been shimmed to the forend below the barrel. Mounts standard Buffington 1901 pattern rear and front blade sights, with the rear sight graduated to 2000 yards. No Carbine mark visible on the base of the rear sight. Partial inspectors cartouche to the wrist is dated 1899, though the serial number corresponds with a production date of 1903. Rifle mounts a 1905 pattern sling held together with shoelaces.

Condition Report
Good as Converted to Carbine. Bore is Frosty with strong rifling and some blue green oxidation to firing residues. Metal work has a deep brown patina overall with some flecks of oxidation on the cocking knob. The stock has some light nicks and mars, with a chip to the left wrist over the inspector cartouche. The sling is broken with the forward end held together by shoelaces.
