Lot Description
[CIVIL WAR]. A group of 11 Civil War documents from Maine,  Pennsylvania, and Ohio.

Civil War document – state of Maine General Order for raising companies of volunteer soldiers.  Dated Dec. 19, 1864. 

DS dated Feb. 19, 1863.  "…Whereas by an inquisition held in pursuance of the provision of an Act of the General Assembly of Pennsylvania, entitled An Act relating to lunatics and habitual drunkards, approved June thirteenth, one thousand eight hundred and thirty six, which inquisitions dated the 31st day of December A.D. 1862, Samuel Endy of the township of Clinton, was found to be a Lunatic, and by reason thereof to have become incapable of managing his estate, which said Inquisition has been returned and confirmed by the Court, and the said William Berger has been appointed the [guardian] of the said Samuel Endy." Endy enlisted in Co. C, 167th Pennsylvania in Nov. 1862 and was discharged in August 1863.

9 Civil War documents, including:

Three documents relating to supplies for the 6th Maine Vols. One, a Special Requisition No. 40 for caps, coats, shirts, shoes, and trousers, signed by  Capt. Sewell Gray, Co. A, 18 June 1862. Second is  a list of stores received at the Camp at White Oak Church, VA, 2 Sept. 1863, Lt. A.P. Buck, Q.M. Third is a Property Return form, second quarter 1863, also signed by Lt. Buck.

Five documents relating to Illinois units include: ANS, Gen. Hospital No. 15, Nashville, letting Mrs. Gay know that her husband, John Gay, died Apr. 3, year not stated, [1865]. And a pension form from the Department of the Interior, "Claim of Widow having Minor Children" for Mrs. Gay. 20 May 1868. Second is a Special Order, No. 22, H.Q. Detachment Army of the Tennessee, Eastport, Mississippi, 26 Jan. 1865 ordering ten men (one sergt. and 9 privates) from the 81st Illinois Vols. for ambulance corps duty. Third is a Special Order No. 5, St. Charles, Arkansas, 12 Aug. 1864, relieving a group of men from the 81st Illinois  from Ambulance Corps duty and ordering them to report to their regiment. Fourth is a Special Order No. 19, H.Q. Post of Montgomery, Alabama, 20 May 1865 detailing Sergt. I.B. Wright, 81st IL Vol. for Special Duty at these headquarters. 

Plus one discharge document, honorably discharging Paul Richardson from the Ohio National Guard, 1 May 1866. Signed by B.R. Greene, Adj. Genl. of Ohio.
