Lot Description
[CIVIL WAR]. Gambling chips, tokens, playing cards, & personal items. Ca 19th-early 20th century. 

A collection of personal items, some possibly used during the Civil War, including:

Selection of gaming tokens and dice housed in plastic bag identified as "Civil War gaming tokens," furnished by Carroll J. Delery III. -- Assortment of matches, housed in plastic bag identified as "C.W. matches," furnished by Carroll J. Delery III. -- Selection of red, black, white, and brown chess pieces, housed in plastic bag identified as "C.W. chess pieces," furnished by Carroll J. Delery III. -- Single led gaming token or poker chip, dug at Crown Point, NY, ca 18th century (as per handwritten notation on accompanying bag in which token is housed). -- 15+ colorful marbles/balls. -- Miniature sets of dice. -- 3 chips featuring eagles. -- 8 decks of cards (some may be incomplete), ca 19th-20th century. -- Interlocking utensil set. -- Feeder identified as "Civil War-period" on accompanying modern tag.

[With:] 5 commemorative medallions issued by the Civil War Centennial Commission, 1961-1965, approx. 2 1/2 in. dia. Each with portraits of Grant and Lee on obverse, spread-winged eagle and soldiers on reverse. 2 1/2 in. dia., housed in original case issued by Medallic Art Co., New York, with accompanying document describing the medal. -- Badge from the 33rd National Encampment, USWV, New Orleans. -- 4 1/4 x 8 x 12 in. metal box with gilt initials on top, "J.S.E." (oxidation, surface loss, heavy wear to box).

An eclectic collection of gaming tokens, dice, playing cards, matches, medals, and other personal items, some possibly used during the Civil War-period. Condition consistent with age and use.
