U.S. Model 1840 Light Artillery Saber by Ames
American Civil War
32" curved single edged blade with a 25" stopped median fuller. Blade 1.25" wide at ricasso. Overall length 37.5". 5.25" hilt with cast brass guard and knuckle bow. Grooved wood grip with leather covering and 16 wraps of twisted wire. Reverse ricasso with three line Ames scroll mark, obverse marked U.S./J.C.W./1863. Steel scabbard with old nickel plating and two suspension rings.

Condition Report
Very good. Blade with some of the bright polish and showing scattered surface oxidation and freckled discoloration. Guard with a medium mustard patina. Grip with some wear to the leather, showing scuffing and some flaking, wire intact. Throat washer intact. Scabbard with scattered oxidation and old added plating that is flaking.
