Lot Description
** U.S. Springfield Transitional Model 1922-M1/M2 Without Rear Sight and Magazine

.22 LR. 24" barrel length. SN: 14320. Black parkerized metal finish with nickel steel bolt. Walnut stock has a plain semi pistol grip and forearm with hand grooves to both sides and a single barrel band. Bolt action rifle with a blade front sight. Item features an M2 bolt. Markings include U.S./SPRINGFIELD/ARMORY/M1922M1/14320 to receiver. Barrel is marked S A/{flaming bomb}/9-27 to top and LONG RIFLE/CART'GE ONLY on left side. Bolt is marked NS/M2 to top of handle, and has serial number marked to top with electro pen, as well as M2 and D-29223-2. Checkered buttplate is painted with 31 C/M. Item is without a rear sight and magazine. 

According to Brophy's book on 1903 rifles, M1922-M1 production stopped in 1933 but it is believed that around 200 M1 rifles were fitted with M2 bolts and magazines without any changes to the markings on the rifle. They are considered to be transitional models.

Condition Report

Good. Bore is bright. Finish has mottled grey-brown appearance from losses, scratching, and sprinkled pitting overall. Wood stock has light scratching and mars scattered overall.
