Lot Description
[CIVIL WAR]. A group of 5 tintypes of Union soldiers, most armed, comprising: 

Sixth plate tintype three-quarter portrait of a young Union soldier armed with long gun housed with a sixteenth plate portrait of the same young man in civil dress.

Sixth plate hand-tinted and gilt tintype, (Some wear at perimeter, a bit dark.) Sixteenth plate hand-tinted tintype. (Slight loss to emulsion, some abrasions). Housed in full pressed paper case (scuffs), sixteenth plate in brass mat and preserver and pinned to velvet pad of sixth plate case (tarnishing to mat). Pencil inscription behind case suggests that this might show "A. Clark, 1862."

[With:] Sixth plate tintype three-quarter portrait of armed soldier. (Clarity weak). Housed in geometric union case [Berg 3-156]. -- Sixth plate tintype full-length portrait of soldier standing in studio holding cap in hand. (Light scratches at perimeter.) Housed in geometric union case [Berg 3-132] (soiled). -- Ninth plate tintype half-length portrait of a heavily armed soldier with a bayonetted rifle, a handgun in his belt, and possibly a third weapon. (Some loss of emulsion, weak clarity). Housed in full pressed paper case (hinge split and rebacked). -- Together, 3 cased images.
