[CIVIL WAR]. Stereoview of a Rebel casualty and CDV of armed soldier, with additional photographs.
ROCHE, Thomas C. (1826-1895), photographer. A Rebel Soldier, killed at the Trenches before Petersburgh. New York: E. & H.T. Anthony. Stereoview on cardstock mount with series title on recto, "Photograph History / The War for the Union." Verso with image title and publication information (light toning to print, edge and corner wear to mount). -- CDV of a uniformed soldier, kneeling in a studio setting with a rifle in his hands. Photographer unknown (mount possibly trimmed).
[With:] 8 CDVs, 3 of which show identified figures, including James Fisk Jr., Novelty Dollar Store imprint and 2-cent revenue stamp on verso, Major General John Pope (after lithograph/engraving), and Commodore David D. Porter (after lithograph/engraving), Molleson & Co., New York imprint on verso. The remaining 5 CDVs show civilians (toning, soiling, edge and corner wear to most).
[With:] 4 photographs/prints, including copy image of a soldier identified in modern pencil on verso as W.J.A. Alexander, Major, 39th Texas Cavalry (residue on verso). -- Real photo postcard of a large gathering of people, with "Bryan 4 years ago" written in right margin. This may show William Jennings Bryan delivering a speech (some spotting, fading). -- Photograph providing interior view of a Chicago delicatessen, with inked notation on verso. -- Portrait of a young man taken in New Orleans, LA (residue on surface, trimmed edges).
[Also with:] 8 glass slides, most lithographed scenes, with exception of Underwood & Underwood view of the "Sugar levee beside the Mississippi, New Orleans, La." (one slide with crack in glass).
Together, 20+ items, highlighted by a war-date stereoview of a Confederate casualty and a CDV of an armed soldier.
